Midwest Venture Showcase to connect entrepreneurs, investors

An agriculture technology company that reduces the labor shortage in the livestock industry and improves animal well-being by fusing cutting-edge tech and farmer common sense.

A medical device company that identifies and treats pre-cavities earlier, eliminating the need for painful and invasive dental procedures later.

A smart lock company that offers seamless software integration into existing smart home platforms.

These and more than 50 other companies seeking funding will be introduced to an audience of investors, entrepreneurs, researchers and business leaders at the 2021 Midwest Venture Showcase on April 27-28.

The virtual event will highlight industry trends and insights from experts as well as information about Midwest companies that are poised for growth and seeking capital investment. Companies in the showcase span the life sciences, medical device, agriculture/food and tech industries.

Of the 57 companies to be featured, 37 are seeking seed-stage funding and 20 are seeking Series A/B funding. They hail from 15 states, including Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Alabama, Nebraska and Pennsylvania.

The event also will feature 20-25 tech transfer spinouts from top research universities seeking pre-seed and seed funding. Participating universities include the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Ohio State University, the University of Chicago, the University of Louisville, the University of Minnesota, Wayne State University and Western Michigan University.

Launched in 2020, the showcase represents a partnership of two groups: The Midwest Growth Capital Symposium, which since 1980 has connected venture capital investors, angel investors, high-growth companies and university tech transfer officers; and the InvestMidwest Venture Capital Forum, which for 21 years has drawn investors from around the country to meet with companies seeking $1 million or more in equity investments.
